Poverty Reduction: Southeast Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation Project

Southeast Asia Poverty Reduction Cooperation project will be implemented in four villages across the country. The project will be implemented by the Department of Rural Development with the objective for the Sustainable Development Goals, highlighting the improvement of socio-economic life of rural people, narrowing development gap and creating more job opportunities for local people.

During 2018-2021, the project was started as a pilot one in Aye Chan Thar model village in TetKone township, and Min Htin village in Lewe township in Nay Pyi Taw Council Area. Based on the project outcomes, the poverty reduction in Southeast Asia Project (2) will be implemented with the support of the People’s Republic of China.

Nyan Win Paing, Deputy Director, Department of Rural Development said “The project includes providing assistance for basic infrastructures such as schools, clinics in villages, development of livelihood of local people and funding. Besides, we will evaluate the progress and conduct waste management system in the model villages. For the 1st phase, we drafted a proposal and submitted to China. We have already got draft approval from China and now we are making arrangements to sign the exchange letter, Surveys will be conducted in four villages with the cooperation of Chinese experts. And then, we will choose the villages and approve upon the data that we obtained.”

The project implementation period will be two years after signing. With the cooperation of China and Department of Rural Development, the project will be implemented at one village each in Mandalay tropical region, the coastal area of Mon State, Ayeyawaddy delta region and Shan State (South) mountainous area.
