Efforts for IDPs: National-level Committee holds meeting on resettlement

The National-level Committee on Resettlement of IDPs and Closure of Temporary IDP Camps held its meeting 2/2022 on Wednesday afternoon at the Ministry of Border Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw.

In the meeting, Chairman of the Committee Union Minister Lt-Gen Tun Tun Naung highlighted completed construction of houses and resettlement of IDPs in Myitkyina, Waingmaw, Moemauk, Mansi, Putao and Chipwi townships of Kachin State and resettlement of IDPs and closure of 2 IDP camps in Hlaingbwe and Myainggyingu area of Kayin State and also repair of houses and efforts for water, transport and electricity access in Rakhine State, Shan State.

He added that the Committee has made arrangements and plans to help IDPs in Paletwa Township area of Chin State to return home. Under the arrangement of the Committee during the period from March of 2021 to June of 2022, over 40,000 IDPs could return home and were resettled.

The Union Minister called on attendees to work hand in hand, to make efforts to help IDPs return to their original places, to implement the decisions made in the meeting in cooperation with the states and regional governments, to follow the strategies, policies and international standard and to manage international aid.

Vice Chairperson of the Committee Union Minister Dr. Thet Thet Khaing explained provision of aid, foodstuffs, COVID-19 vaccination programme, information on IDP camps, ongoing works for closure of IDP camps and plans.

The meeting continued with works and plans done by the National-level Committee, implementation of decisions made in the meeting 1/2022 by work committees and plans, and suggestions on Resettlement of IDPs and Closure of Temporary IDP Camps.
