Aid Provision for Flood-hit locals: VSG visits flood-hit areas in Pyin Oo Lwin

Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Vice-Senior General Soe Win, in his capacity as Chairman of the Natural Disaster Management Committee, visited flood-hit areas due to heavy rains in Pyin Oo Lwin Township of Mandalay Region.

During the visit, first, the Vice Senior General heard reports on the recent heavy rains, flooding, loss and damage and rescue operation. In his response, the Vice Senior General called on concerned officials to make efforts for cleaning up after the flood in cooperation with the locals, flow of water in the Gel Laung Creek, quick rehabilitation process, assistance provision and healthcare measures.

The Vice Senior General also visited flood-hit areas including the BE Fall and wards in the Township. Also, at the Sport Stadium, he met with the flood-hit locals and gave words of encouragement. In the meeting, the Vice Senior General explained causes of flood and preparations to tackle natural disasters before calling for continuous cooperation with relevant departments to overcome challenges caused by the flood.

There, he also provided cash assistance and aid for the flood-hit locals. It’s learnt that the record-hit July 31 heavy rain hit Pyin Oo Lwin Township in 30 years, and the Gel Laung‌ Creek flood occurred and 9 out of 21 wards in the Township were flooded.
