







Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs U Min Thein Zan attended 1styear anniversary of the formation of the Ministry at the Wunna Theikdi Stadium-B in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.
On the occasion, the Union Minister said that the Ministry of Sports was established on 18th December 1996 and it was reformed as the Ministry of Health and Sports in May 2016. Since 1st August 2021, it was reorganized as the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs and now it has been one year.
The Ministry is implementing for the development of sports sector and working together with Myanmar Sports Federation to develop short and long-term plans for the emergence of a new generation athletes.
In order to bring out the new generation athletes, 6 Institutes of Sports and Physical Education could be opened and arrangements are being made to appoint the staff for the Institutes in Sittway and Hakha according to the structure.
The Ministry is implementing 18 sectors in cooperation with the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, the Ministry of Information and the Ministry of Education for the comprehensive development of the youths.
At the event, the Union Minister presented 3.5 million kyats for outstanding trainees, outstanding athletes in the 54th Asian Bodybuilding,Physique Sports Championships, the AFF Women's Championship-2022, the 31st SEA Games and Myanmar Women’s Football Team.
Officials also presented honorary medals and cash awards to outstanding athlete staffs and coaches and instructors. The Union Minister and the Deputy Minister provided over 2.6 million kyats cash assistance for rice, edible oil and beans for 1,250 staff who are discharging duties in the departments of the Ministry.
Then, the Union Minister attended opening ceremony of 2022 Vovinam Instructor Course jointly conducted by the Sports and Physical Education Department and the Myanmar (Thaing) Martial Arts Federation at the Nay Pyi Taw Gold Camp. 30 trainees from States and Regions are attending one-month training course that will be held until 30th August.
