
Santiago's ParqueMetropolitano Zoo welcomed a baby giraffe to the family on June 19 and the mother and baby are doing well.
The baby, a male who has yet to be named, was unveiled to the public Wednesday, weighing in at 100 kilos and is 2 meters tall and is expected to grow to be upwards of 5 meters in height when he is an adult. According to zoo experts, the little giraffe is nursing from his mother and is drinking approximately 2 to 10 liters of milk per day, a healthy rate of consumption. The zoo is holding a naming contest to pick a proper name for the new edition.
