Widodo visits Kyiv to help restart peace talks

Ukraine's President VolodymyrZelenskyy on Wednesday hosted Indonesian President Joko Widodo for talks at the Mariinskyi Palace in Kyiv.

Widodo and his wife travelled to Kyiv in a bid to help restart peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. Speaking at a joint briefing in Kyiv with the Indonesian president, Zelenskyy said the two had discussed the global food crisis during bilateral talks. Earlier, Widodo said that Russian President Vladimir Putin intended to attend the summit in November this year in Bali. Widodo has said he wants to encourage Putin and Zelenskyy to start a dialogue on ending the conflict. He has invited Zelenskyy to the summit along with Putin in hopes it will appease proponents of both Ukraine and Russia and limit any distraction from the forum’s other agenda items.
