Heavy thunderstorms, which brought hail and strong gusts of wind, caused flooding in parts of southern and western Germany on Sunday.

So much hail fell in the village of Weiler, in the Bavarian Allgaeu region, in such a short period of time that some roads were entirely blocked.

In some places, the hailstones piled up to half a meter high. Wheel loaders were used to help clear the roads while the combination of hail and heavy rain caused roads to flood in other areas.

Officials have warned more severe thunderstorms are set to move through the country overnight, travelling from the southwest to the northeast.
