London's new Elizabeth railway line opens

After 20 years of planning, construction and delays, the latest addition to London's tube system, Elizabeth Line, finally opened on Tuesday.

Transport enthusiasts gathered in an attempt to be on the first train when the services began at 6.30am. The new line links Reading to the west with Essex to the east, via central London and will operate from Monday to Saturday, with no services on Sundays at first.Only one of the line's three branches is expected to open this week with the Shenfield to Liverpool Street and Heathrow-Reading to Paddington sections to be fully integrated in a year's time.
