Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing sent a message on the occasion of the Workers’ Day, which falls on 1st May.
The Prime Minister stated that as a recognition to the efforts of workers to claim their rights on working extra hours and labour exploitation at the factories and workshops in 19th Century, the 1st of May has been designated as the Workers’ Day.
The annual celebrations have been held all around the world including Myanmar. He continued that the message has been sent to show his recognition to the workers force who are essential for the progress of production and economy of the country while the government is making its all-out efforts for the prosperity of the nation and food sufficiency as the national duty.
He reiterated that one of the objectives of the economic affairs mentioned to promote and support local businesses to create employment opportunities and increase domestic production.
With this, emphasize has been made for development of economy by boosting production while creating job opportunities, better work places and progress of the country with the tripartite efforts of the government, employers and employments. He continued that for the safe migration of Myanmar workers, cooperation has been made with Thailand, Korea and Japan by signing MOUs on technical on-job training and skilled labour.
The Labour Attaches have also been appointed in Korea, Thailand and Malaysia for the Myanmar migrant workers to fully enjoy their rights in line with the law of the host country.
Moreover, the workers are provided with health care treatment and cash benefits through the social security scheme.
COVID-19 vaccines have administered to the workers in Yangon, Mandalay, Ayeyawady and Bago Regions and the process has been continued in the remaining regions and states.
Being a developing country, plans have been made for employing the children under 18 to support the welfare of the family, and the process for approving the list of occupational hazards and workplaces prohibited for children under the age of 18 is underway.
He stressed that reducing workplace disputes is an important factor in achieving workplace peace and productivity. The Workers Coordination Committees and the Labour Tribunal have been formed to tackle the workplace disputes.
The Prime Minister wished for the workers force to enjoy the socio-economic progress, worksite safety, boosting production with collective efforts and to strive for all-round development of the nation.
