



A ceremony to commence the production of Myancopharm COVID-19 vaccine took place at the Pharmaceutical Factory (YwaThagyi) in Hlegu Township of Yangon Region on Wednesday.
Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe said efforts have been made for 100% coverage of vaccination in April and May.
More vaccines will be needed for administering the Booster Dose, and as a short term plan, the vaccines have been purchased from Sinopharm China National Biotec Group as Ready to Fill Bulk. Five countries in ASEAN region including Myanmar are carrying out this process. China’s Sinopharm CNBG also conducted training for production process and quality testing.
He added that production of COVID-19 vaccine locally could help reduce the use of foreign currency. He expressed thanks for those involved in the production process of the vaccines and stressed to make cooperative efforts for production of vaccines locally in the long run.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Mr Chen Hai gave a speech, followed by the video message of the Sinopharm Group Chairman Mr. Liu Jingzhen. After formal opening of the ceremony, the SAC Secretary and party observed the production process of Myancopharm vaccine.
Each vial of Myancopharm vaccine cover for five persons and it has to be kept at the temperature of 2 to 8°C. The effectiveness of the vaccine is one year. 10 million doses of vaccines will be produced in 2022-2023 fiscal year with one million doses per month.
