


Plans are underway for reopening of cinemas on 17th April, Myanmar New Year Day.
A coordination meeting on re-opening of cinemas was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Wednesday. Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn discussed that management works for a total of 121 cinemas including 27 state-owned and 94 private owned have already handed over to the respective regions and states.
Among the cinemas that have been sold to the private sector, those do not engaged in movie screening will be taken action in line with the law and the instructions have been informed to the region and state governments including Nay Pyi Taw Council area.
No permission has to be granted for doing other business instead of movie screening, and if not, the cinema must return to the government. Out of 94 cinemas, 25 have been suspended movie screening due to COVID-19 and 69 of them could not engaged in movie screening. Among them, 10 facilities are under construction while 16 others are planning for reconstruction and 43 have no plan to engage in movie screening.
