Heatstroke Awareness: Public awareness conducted in Mandalay

Mandalay is the central region and is located in the dry zone of Myanmar. Now, the summer season comes in Myanmar and it’s also important to be aware of heatstroke.

The Public Health Department of Mandalay Region is conducting heat stroke awareness and prevention to public, an official said.

Dr. Win Naing (Head), Department of Public Health (Mandalay) said “The symptoms of heatstroke are fatigue, exhaustion and excessive sweating. People with diabetes and the elderly are more likely to be affected. It can even cause to unconsciousness. The best way to prevent heatstroke is to stay in the shady places as much as possible and stay in the well-ventilated places. By doing so, the elders, people with underlying diseases and children can resist the risk of heatstroke. It also needs to reduce alcohol consumption.”

Concerning the heat stroke and heat exhaustion, people need to stay in the shade as well as drink water a lot daily. During March, April and May, daytime temperatures can rise, and sometimes, extreme temperatures can cause severe weather, an official of Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (Upper Myanmar) said.

Kyaw Lwin Oo, Director (Upper Myanmar), Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said “The extreme temperature means the temperature of a region exceeds more than usual. Depending on the exceeding period, it can affect to people and natural resources. There are any side-effects. Especially, people should follow health awareness and pay attention to weather forecast.”

As Mandalay Region is the arid zone, people should be aware of heatstroke prevention conducted by the Ministry of Health and they also should pay attention to weather forecast issued by Department of Meteorology and Hydrology, the official of Department of Meteorology and Hydrology (Upper Myanmar) added.
