Public Obeisance: Ngarhtatgyi Pagoda In Yangon

MahaThetKyaAtula Man AungNgarHtatGyi Pagoda in Yangon is opened in line with COVID-19 guidelines for public obeisance.

Since COVID-19 outbreak, the pagoda has been closed temporarily and it has been reopened on 8th February 2022 with the permission of the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture.

KyawShwe, Member of Pagoda Board of Trustees, MahaThetKyaAtula Man AungNgarHtatGyi Pagoda said “The seasonal festivals are usually held at the pagoda. During the Buddhist lent, the religious sermons are recited every waxing and waning day. On the fullmoon day of Waso, alms food, flowers and light offering ceremony is held. During Thingyan period, people perform meritorious deeds and donate charity feasts at the pagoda. The seasonal festivals are held at the pagoda on the significant days.”

The pagoda is opened daily from 8 am to 5 pm. About 200 to 250 visitors and pilgrims pay homage to the pagoda on Sunday and Sabbath Days. Before COVID-19, tourists visit the pagoda and most of them are from Thailand.

Visitors from China, Singapore and Sri Lanka also visit the pagoda. The Buddha Pujaniya Festival of the Pagoda is annually held on the fullmoon day of Pyatho.
