



European Union leaders descended on Brussels Thursday to open up dialogue and agree on sanctions against Russia following its invasion of Ukraine. During the emergency summit Thursday, the 27 member countries' leaders approved punitive measures against Russia's financial, energy and transport sectors and restrictions on exports and financing.
Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said "…..You see what's happening: a nuclear power, a nuclear power - a country who has the nuclear arm - is launching a brutal attack against its neighbour; an unjustified attack and brutal attack against to its neighbour and threatening everybody that could come and help Ukraine -- threatening with the use of nuclear weapons. …”
They also added more Russian individuals to its earlier sanctions list. The sanctions will start having effect once adopted by the EU Council during a meeting of foreign affairs ministers scheduled Friday. The EU leaders say they also want to draw up sanctions against Belarus because of its close links to Russia.
