ASEAN Affairs: 2nd ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting

Myanmar is hosting the 2nd ASEAN Digital Ministers’ Meeting (2nd ADGMIN) with the theme “Digital Transformation – the Engine for ASEAN Economic Recovery from COVID-19” via videoconferencing since the 27th of January.

The meeting was attended by a Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister Transport and Telecommunications Admiral Tin Aung San, ASEAN digital ministers and many other high-ranking officials.

In his video message to the Meeting, Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing stressed the important role of the ADGMIN for the ASEAN economy recovery, advantages and impact of digital technology transformation, a finding which shows that communities with the digital technology can withstand the socioeconomic effects, necessity of using digital technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, implementation of the 2025 ASEAN Digital Master Plan 2025 (ADM 2025) and accountability.

Chair of the meeting Union Minister Transport and Telecommunications Admiral Tin Aung San gave an opening speech. Attendees exchanged views on the Digital Transformation: the Engine for ASEAN Economic Recovery from COVID-19.

The meeting approved projects of the ASEAN Digital Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADGSOM) and ASEAN Telecommunication Regulators’ Council Meeting (ATRC), other projects and Joint Media Statement and recorded the Nay Pyi Taw Declaration. This 2-day meeting continues on Friday, January 28.
