
A seminar on “Civics vs Ethics : Sustainable Tourism Development For Myanmar” was held virtually at the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism on Tuesday morning. The workshop was led by Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism Dr. Htay Aung.
In his speech, the Union Minister said that the civics (PyithuNiti) is a guideline that every citizen must uphold for the benefit of the people. In civics, there are four areas; social ethics, Rights and responsibilities, discipline and law and peaceful coexistence.
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has drafted a responsible tourism policy since 2012 to prevent environmental damage in the tourism industry. The World Tourism Organization has drafted the "Global Code of Ethics for Tourism" with the aim of reducing the impacts of tourism on the environment and cultural heritages and promoting economic prosperity, peace and understanding among the world nations.
This workshop will provide information on civics, travel ethics, business ethics in the tourism industry and society and philanthropic. Representatives made the round discussions in 4 groups with the topics “Civics education, ethics of visitors, ethics of tourism and related organizations and ethics of local people and volunteers.
