G-20 Foreign Ministers and delegations attending the Matera summit were hosted by Italian FM Luigi di Maio at the 'Sassi di Matera' historical site on Tuesday. Matera's famous 'Sassi,' site, which translates as 'stones' were dwellings carved out of natural caves of tuff.

The G-20 Foreign Ministers and delegations also got the chance to listen to the Matera marching band and to the Matera youth orchestra, concluding their visit in one of the most iconic places of 'Sassi', the square of San Pietro Caveoso. For decades, visually stunning Matera, a provincial capital of Basilicata, one of Italy's poorest regions, had been synonymous with southern European poverty and underdevelopment.
