Bear shot dead in Sapporo after attacks on people

A brown bear was shot dead Friday by local hunters and captured, ending an eight-hour after wandering around the streets in the northern Japanese city of Sapporo all night, injuring four people including a soldier. Footage on local television showed the wandering bear along the street in Sapporo. The bear knocked down a uniformed soldier on duty at the gate. The soldier suffered cuts in his chest and stomach, but his injury was not life threatening, according to the Defense Ministry. Earlier Friday morning, the bear injured three other people but their conditions were not known, Hokkaido prefectural police said. The younger victim was mauled by the bear while walking on the street suffered serious injuries in the chest, on his back and on the limbs, the Asahi newspaper reported.
