Macron on Biden, NATO and European defence

French President Emmanuel Macron called for European Union member states to work to homogenize their approach to relaxing pandemic restrictions in a joint press conference with German Chancellor Angela Merkel Friday. Speaking ahead of a working dinner in Berlin, the leaders called for vigilance to prevent the spread of the more infectious /Delta coronavirus variant that this week prompted Britain to delay a planned relaxation of pandemic restrictions. Macron said the reopening of the economies in some member states, "for largely tourist reasons" had put the two countries "on their guard".
