Italy is recommending that the AstraZeneca vaccine only be administered to people over the age of 60, adding that those under 60 who received a first dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine should get Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna for their second dose. The government's scientific committee revised its vaccine strategy after reviewing the latest data on cases of rare blood clots in people who received AstraZeneca. Other countries including France and Canada have made similar recommendations. The revision was announced when Italy's health minister said Italy's infection rate was among the lowest in the EU, at 26 cases per 100,000 people, and that the majority of the country's regions were graduating into the lowest level of restrictions.
