Brazil reports over 1.6 million COVID-19 cases on Sunday

Brazil's national count of COVID-19 cases climbed to 1.6 million on Sunday, the country's health ministry said. Data of the Brazilian Health Ministry showed that 26,051 new cases and 602 deaths had been reported in the past 24 hours, while the COVID-19 death toll had increased to 64,867.

A total of 906,286 patients had recovered from the disease since the start of the outbreak in Brazil, the ministry added. Economic activities had gradually resumed in the country. Crowds were seen gathering on various occasions over the weekend. Local police imposed fines on those venues or ordered temporary closures accordingly. In the capital city of Brasilia, crowds were also seen on the streets as many started running or cycling outdoors.
