


Handover Ceremony of 60 school buses donated by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA Myanmar) was held in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.
KOICA Myanmar has donated 40 school buses previously in 2016, and another 60 buses during the visit of Korean President Moon Jae In last year.
The donation of the school buses is part of a KOICA's project for improvement of access to education through provision of school buses in Myanmar.
Chief Representative, KOICA Myanmar, Lee Youn Soo said "The purpose of this project is to enhance the school students' access to education by providing more safe and convenient ways and means to help them go to school. Also through this project, we will provide traffic safety education materials by nurturing instructors so that instructors can deliver the traffic safety education to students, teachers and drivers. "
This is the very first school bus project in Nay Pyi Taw which is being implemented in cooperation with the development partner.
Director General, Department of Basic Education, Ko Lay Win said “The Department of Basic Education is implementing for convenient of the students in Nay Pyi Taw Council area by signing MoU with KOICA. According to MoU, it includes appointment of drivers and conductor to ensure safety of the students. These 60 buses can cover 6 townships. We will also implement for road safety measures.”
It is also learnt that KOICA Myanmar plans to develop traffic safety education guidelines. And thus, the Ministry of Education can utilize those guidelines to enhance the traffic safety across the country in Myanmar.
