Public Awareness: Yangon Region Earthquake Awareness Week Campaign Launched

Yangon Region Earthquake Awareness Week Campaign was launched at Maha Bandula Park in Yangon on Sunday. 

This campaign is organized by Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement and Yangon Region Government in cooperation with UN and private sectors.

It aims to raise earthquake awareness among the public, to make effective earthquake preparedness and response plans and to lessen damages and loss of properties and lives.

Country Director, ActionAid Myanmar, Araddhya Mehtta said “This event is started to have public awareness reasons around earthquakes how can it be more prepared, how can we make Yangon as a safety city more than resilient cities. We have now over 30 booths are presented and it is collaboration with private sectors, UN organizations, civil societies and the government to show their preparedness for the earthquakes.”

Department of Disaster Management, Myanmar Fire Services Department, Myanmar Earthquake Committee and many other associations contribute this campaign to support earthquake awareness programs. 

This campaign week is set to be held till 22nd February and it will take place at 6 townships in Yangon. Variety of booths related earthquake, fun games and preparedness activities for earthquakes will be displayed at the events and entertainments will be staged there.
