President Jovenel Moise stood firms against calls for his resignation on Tuesday amidst violent protests against his government. Opposition leaders and their supporters are calling for the resignation of President Jovenel Moise amid anger over fuel and food shortages, a steep currency devaluation and corruption allegations. But Moise told media he is working for peace in the impoverished nation.

Haiti, the poorest country in the Americas, has been rocked by violent protests in the last month that have led schools, public offices and businesses to close and forced non-governmental organizations to suspend aid distribution. This is the longest demonstrations against Moise since they broke out last year. At least 17 people have been killed and 189 injured, according to Haiti's National Network for the Defence of Human Rights.
