


The British Council in Yangon awarded IELTS Prize 2018/19 Local Prize to four outstanding test takers from Myanmar.
Over 3.5 million candidates took IELTS test in 2018. There were 33 prize winners from East Asia region including four candidates from Myanmar - one regional third prize winner and local top 3 winners. The judgement for award winners is linked to the score, candidates got in the test - a band score of 6 and acceptance letter from a university.
Third Prize Winner, Regional Level, IELTS Test 2018/19 , Phyo Thura Htay said “I’ve been familiar with IELTS test from a long time. I’m preparing for my master abroad so IELTS is one of the validations of my English proficiency. So I decided to take the test earlier this year. I did overcome a number of challenges mainly because IELTS test our components. They are testing the academic English proficiency.”
IELTS test winners from local are presented with awards as it is important to support people who want to study internationally with valuable experience and it helps them learn new skills and knowedge.
Director and Cultural Attaché, British Council, Dr. Richard Sunderland said “Since 2016, test taken 300 people around East Asia have been awarded these prizes and a good number those comes from Myanmar. So we are very proud that we can support Myanmar nationals to go in the region or to the UK to study and then when they come back contribute to the country, here.”
Since 2016, the British Council IELTS Prize has been awarded to more than 270 students in East Asia who will pursue higher education in their dream universities in 2019/20 academic year.
