
A new marionette theatre was formally opened on Sunday in Mandalay as part of efforts to sustain and revive the traditional art in Myanmar.
The new theatre is located near the two big lion statues at the entrance of the Mandalay Hill in Aungmyethazan Township. The aims of launching new marionette theatre are to draw more international visitors, to revive the valuable Myanmar Traditional art, bring the art back to life and turning out the new generation of Myanmar traditional marionette according to Daw Ma Ma Naing, the chairperson of the Myanmar Marionettes Committee.
The newly launched marionette theatre is 100 feet long and 30 feet wide and has the holding capacity 72 audience.
The marionette shows will take place from 8:30 to 9:30 Pm daily. The entrance fare for a foreigner is 15,000 kyats and free entry fee for the locals, it’s learnt.
