Xi meets UNESCO Director-General

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday called for long-term cooperation between China and the UNESCO to contribute to the common development of the world when meeting with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay in Beijing.

Xi pointed out that cooperation between China and UNESCO is of great significance and conducive to jointly advancing world peace and development. He said China is ready to work more closely with UNESCO to continuously improve the capacity and level in heritage protection, promote exchanges and mutual learning as well as inclusive cooperation among different civilizations, contribute to world peace, and promote the building of a community with shared future for mankind. 

Azoulay said that the Chinese government has always attached great importance to and actively supported UNESCO's work, and that the country has supported the establishment of the UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education, which has played an important role in promoting the education of women and girls around the world.
