All residents of two villages hardest hit by an earthquake in Baqen County, Nagqu City, in southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, have been relocated to shelters with hot meals, drinking water and heating supplies. More than 5,000 personnel have been deployed for search and rescue, medical care and disaster relief.
After three rounds of door-to-door checks, no missing persons had been reported as of 6 p.m. Friday, according to the emergency command headquarters. The earthquake damaged homes, power facilities and communication infrastructure.
Communication services in Baqen County have since returned to pre-earthquake levels, while authorities continue emergency repairs and geological monitoring. Preliminary assessments indicate a relatively low risk of large-scale collapses and landslides.
