Workshop on Higher Education Sector : MOE UM delivered the opening remarks

A workshop on reviewing the teaching and learning systems in the higher education sector and setting future action plans was held this morning at the multipurpose hall of the main building of Naypyitaw State Academy.

Union Minister for Education Dr. Chaw Chaw Sein stated that there is a need to systematically transition to the use of a Learning Management System for online education. He noted that Digital Libraries have already been established at Naypyitaw State Academy, Yangon University of Foreign Languages, and Yangon University of Education to keep pace with international standards.

He also highlighted the growing number of students interested in distance education, emphasizing the need to enhance the distance education system. He called for exploring the challenges and methods for establishing Open Universities based on the Yangon Distance Education University and Mandalay Distance Education University.

He further mentioned that Centers for Research and Innovation (CRI) are being implemented at Naypyitaw State Academy, Yangon University, and Mandalay University for research and innovation activities.

Following this, the Director-General of the Department of Higher Education, Dr. Than Zaw Oo, presented an explanation regarding the workshop.

After the opening ceremony, the Union Minister and responsible officials toured and observed the ongoing discussions of the experts.

During the parallel sessions held in the afternoon, the Chairman of Pyithu Hluttaw Committee for the Promotion of Education Dr. Hla Tint spoke on the topic of “the distance education system”, Rector of Yangon University of Economics Dr. Tin Tin Htwe on “the digital education system”, former Rector of Yangon University of Foreign Languages Dr. Kay Shwin on “the quality assurance system” and former Deputy Director-General Dr. Khin Myo Myint Kyu on “enhancing teacher professional development”.

Afterward, the attendees participated in the parallel sessions to discuss the topics of distance education system, digital education system, quality assurance system, and teacher professional development.

The workshop on reviewing the teaching and learning systems in the higher education sector and setting future action plans will be held over two days, from July 14 to July 15, it’s reported.
