Regarding the migrant workers, over 5,000 Myanmar nationals went to the Republic of Korea to work under the MOU system from December 2021 to September 2022.
Most of them are employed at manufacturing factories, the Department of Labour said. Those who will go to the Republic of Korea to work are not allowed to carry such restricted items as agricultural products, lemons, Djenkol beans, betel leaf, areca nut and tobacco.
If such items are found, the workers will be warned at the 1st time and they will have to pay fine at the 2nd time which is 5 million Korean won. Over 4,000 out of over 5,000 migrant workers sent to Korea from December 2021 to September 2022 are for manufacturing factories, over 200 are for construction and over 500 are for agriculture.
The Department of Labour gives natural disaster preparedness training to migrant workers before they go and work abroad. The Department added that going and working abroad via legal channel is to get labour rights.
