






A work coordination meeting on electricity generation and distribution condition within Yangon Region was held at Yangon Region Government Office on 30th January.
Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun, Chief Minister U Soe Thein and concerned officials attended the meeting. In his speech, the Union Minister underscored the strenuous efforts of the ministry in sufficient electricity generation through various resources for fully operation of infrastructure to accelerate nation’s manufacturing sector. There are 32 hydropower plants, 24 natural gas power plant, 2 coal-fired power plants, 12 solar power plants under the ministry distributing power across nation despite difficulties caused by terrorists’ distruptions.
The Union Minister added that an economic rate will be set for industrial and commercial sectors in order to maintain the continuous supply of electricity and to balance the cost of electricity generation. Then, the reports on LNG power generation condition, power supply to industrial zones, special economic zones and industrial enterprises, setting new rates for industrial and commercial electricity bill as well as investment matters were presented. The Union Minister coordinated necessities upon reports and concluded the meeting.
