A traditional dance and skit performance by a troupe draped in women’s kimono undergarments has taken place in a town in northern Japan. The Gannin dance in Hachirogata Town is said to have been passed down to locals by religious traveling performers named “gannin”.

The dance is performed at this time of year to pray for a bountiful harvest. The troupe, dressed in colorful women’s kimono underwear, staged the dance at Hitoichi Shrine in the town on Tuesday, wiggling their hips and waving their hands while ringing bells.
