Wild elephants spark alarm as they near China city

A group of wild elephants sparked alarm when they foraged in fields near residential areas of E'shan County in the southwestern province of Yunnan over the weekend. footage showed the elephants wandering in forests and corn fields. The group of 15 elephants was reported to have travelled to Yuxi City from the Xishuangbanna National Nature Reserve. The state broadcaster said that nearby residents in E'shan County were evacuated on Friday for safety precautions. No injuries were reported. CGTN, the English language arm of CCTV, reported that the elephants group had caused over 400 incidents since mid April, destroying local crops amounting to about 1 million US dollars, and traversing local streets and villages.
