WHO chief arrives in Ebola-hit DR Congo, inspecting the situation

World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus arrived in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Thursday to personally oversee the response to a deadly, escalating Ebola outbreak. Tedros will visit the epicenter in Ituri to assess the situation and support local health workers.

While the WHO is surging resources, delivering tons of medical supplies and scaling up testing, he has called for an immediate ceasefire in the region to allow containment efforts to safely operate. The outbreak has already crossed borders, prompting neighboring Uganda to shut its border with the DRC after detecting a handful of cases and at least one death.
