Welcoming New Year: Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation holds event

Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation held an event, Thingyan Festival, to welcome the Myanmar New Year.

The event in Nay Pyi Taw was attended by Union Minister U Tin Htut Oo and many other officials as well as staff in line with the COVID-19 prevention guidelines. This event included charity feast and traditional performances.

The Union Minister and officials also presented awards to groups which staged the performances. Thingyan is the Myanmar New Year Festival that usually occurs in middle of April.

Thingyan is the first ever water festival celebrated in the world or the earliest water festival in water festivals. Thingyan is comparable to other festivities in the region such as the Songkran in Laos and Thailand.
