


With the supervision of the Department of Social Welfare under the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, vocational training courses have been conducted to the street kids as part of the reduction and elimination project of street kids and protection plan.
According to this project, 40 street kids in Nay Pyi Taw, 100 in Yangon and 60 in Mandalay are selected to learn the vocational subject as their hobbies.
In Vocational Training School (Mandalay), 2 kids are attending in the basic sewing course while 3others in advanced sewing course.
The courses have been conducted with free of charge from Monday to Friday.
Headmistress, Vocational Training School (Mandalay), SweSwe Mar said “We conducted the basic sewing course to 3 kids starting from 11th March and this course is completed on 29th April. They have also completed the advanced course, being conducted from 2nd May to 10th June. To become more skillful in sewing, we conducted the advanced training course again starting from 13th June. This time, 2 new trainees joined for the basic course and we learnt them in details from the basics. The first 3 trainees have been training for 3 months and they have now completely learnt all the skills needed for sewing. So,it’s a success for our department.”
These training courses have begun since 13th June and will end on 22nd July. Those who have completed the basic sewing course will be able to continue to learn their advanced training on 25th July.
Trainee(Sewing) said “Starting from the basics such as body measurements and drawing sketches are conducted at this vocational training school. Then, they let me to sew dresses and shirts. I really want to be professional in sewing. If I am skillful enough, I will engage in this career as a profession to assist my parents. Thanks to officials to let me join this training course.”
A total of 13kinds of vocational training courses are being conducted in this school, aiming for the street kids to be professional workers and can stand on their own in the future.
