People in Japan celebrated fully-bloomed cherry blossoms on Wednesday amid reduced COVID-19 restrictions in the capital. Cherry blossoms bloomed in Tokyo earlier than average on Tuesday, tying 2020 and 2021 for the earliest date since observations began in 1953.

Sharon Rose Tolentino, Tourist from the Philippines said “Japanese cherry blossom is different because they also have different types - so different colours and different times of blooming. Sometimes they blossom, in this month this day. So, we also get excited to witness other blossoms.” Cherry blossoms are Japan’s favourite flower and usually reach their peak in late March to early April, just as the country celebrates the start of a new school and business year.
