Viet Nam, FIFA boost football ties

Viet Nam Party General Secretary and State President Tô Lâm met with FIFA President Gianni Infantino in Hanoi on Wednesday evening, as the FIFA chief attended the second leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final between Viet Nam and Thailand.

Tô Lâm said the FIFA President’s visit reflected FIFA’s continued attention to Southeast Asian football and provided an opportunity for Viet Nam to showcase its growing football development, including investment in national teams, youth training, sport facilities and international events.

The FIFA President praised Viet Nam’s recent achievements, including the U23 team’s Asian Championship bronze medal and the U17 national team’s qualification for the FIFA U17 World Cup. The Vietnamese leader said the visit would help strengthen cooperation between FIFA and Viet Nam while supporting the continued development of Vietnamese football.
