The administration of US President Donald Trump has announced a delay on tariffs for some imports from Canada and Mexico.

It will suspend for one month the levies on vehicles entering the US under the rules of a free-trade deal known as the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement. Trump had imposed a 25-percent tariff on imports from the countries starting Tuesday.

White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said on Wednesday that the decision comes after the president spoke with executives from the so-called "Big 3" automakers. She added that Trump does not want the automakers to be at an economic disadvantage.
