The United States reported more than 61,400 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, bringing the total number of infections up to more than 4.4 million, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University.

The reported national death toll was 1,074 on the day, bringing the total number up to 150,159, the CSSE tally showed. While the U.S. is now the country with the most confirmed cases and death toll around the world, several U.S. states, especially those in the south and west, have recently seen an uptick in cases.
