US COVID-19 cases top 4.28 million, deaths surpass 147,000

The United States reported 57,039 new active COVID-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total number of infections up to more than 4.28 million, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. The national death toll reached 147,588, the CSSE tally showed. California topped all the U.S. states with 457,598 active COVID-19 cases.

Florida reported 432,747, New York 412,344, and Texas 398,233. Data showed that more young people are getting infected in the state of Florida. By July 24, about 31,150 people under the age of 17 were infected with COVID-19, growing by 34 percent over the past eight days from July 17. The country is also seeing more military personnel and their relatives being infected with the disease. Figures from the U.S. Department of Defense showed at least 25,590 military personnel were confirmed with the disease and 465 of them are in hospital.
