US COVID-19 cases top 4.23 mln, deaths surpass 146,000: Johns Hopkins University

The United States reported 78,000 new active COVID-19 cases on Sunday, bringing the total number up to more than 4.23 million, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. The reported national death toll was 784 on the day, bringing the total number up to 146,927, the CSSE tally showed.

California topped all U.S. states with 452,288 active COVID-19 cases. Florida reported 423,855, New York reported 411,736 and Texas reported 394,084. As the coronavirus infections are continuing to spike in the United States, many investors worry that the disease will threaten the country's economic recovery. Businesses are being restricted and unemployment is creeping up while many U.S. states reported record daily COVID-19 infections.
