US COVID-19 cases climb to 2.87 million, death approaching 130,000

The number of COVID-19 cases in the United States climbed up to 2.87 million on Sunday evening, and the national death toll reached 129,891, according to the Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) at Johns Hopkins University. The country saw over 4,300 new cases and about 230 new deaths in the past 24 hours, the CSSE data showed.

The state of New York reported nearly 400,000 COVID-19 cases, according to the state figures. The state of Florida reported 9,999 new coronavirus cases, bringing the total number of cases in Florida to 200,111. Other states that saw COVID-19 case spike in the past three days included Arizona, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Nevada.
