Union Day Ceremony: Shan State Holds 75th Anniversary of Union Day Celebration

Shan State held the 75th Anniversary of Union Day celebration on Saturday morning in Taunggyi. Acting Shan State Chief Minister, minister for the security and border affairs Colonel Hla Oo and many other officials attended the celebration.

It began with raising the national flag and saluting the flag and fallen martyrs including General Aung San.  The ceremony continued as planned, and Acting Shan State Chief Minister, minister for the security and border affairs, Colonel Hla Oo read out the message sent by Chairman of the State Administration Council Prime Minister Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on the occasion of the 75th Anniversary of Union Day.

This celebration continued at the Taunggyi Stadium with performances by cultural groups from southern, northern and eastern Shan State. The officials also presented a bouquet and cash awards to the cultural groups. The Union Day in Myanmar commemorates the February 12, 1947 signing of a historic Panglong agreement that enabled the birth of a unified republic.

The agreement was a key event in the history of Myanmar as it directly led to Myanmar as an independent state in January 1948. The Union Day that depicts the unity of ethnic national brothers and sisters has been held every year.
