President Donald Trump announced that German automaker Audi will invest 4.2 billion dollars to build its first-ever assembly plant in the United States. The move comes after US tariffs previously cost Audi billions on imports from Europe and Mexico, pushing the company to establish local manufacturing.

Audi CEO Gernot Döllner noted that the plant represents a long-term commitment to make North America a core production pillar alongside Europe and China. Audi, which is a unit of Volkswagen, said in its release that construction was scheduled to begin next year and production in the early 2030s.
