Transboundary Haze Pollution: 17th meeting of the Technical Working Group held

The 17th meeting of the Technical Working Group on Transboundary Haze Pollution in the Mekong Sub-region hosted by Thailand was held online on Tuesday and representatives from Mekong Sub-region countries such as Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam, ASEAN secretariat and ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre joined the Technical Working Group meeting.

The representatives from Mekong Sub-region countries discussed fire outbreaks and haze occurrences in the ASEAN region in 2022, drafting a new road map (2022-2030) by the ASEAN Secretariat for the control of cross-border haze pollution and sustainable development in the region and drafting a new master plan (2022-2030) for Peatlands management in the ASEAN region.

The meeting focused on actions to reduce haze and smog across the border of the Mekong sub-region countries, indicators to reduce the number of Fire Hotspots for the implementation of Chiang Rai Action Plan (2017), cooperation in haze control in the regional countries as well as cooperation with international partner organizations. The setting of date and time for 18th meeting of the Technical Working Group was also discussed.
