A training session and a voter awareness demonstration on the use of the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) were held at the Township hall in Naungcho, Shan State (North) on September 3.

The event was attended by Union Election Commission Chairman U Than Soe, commission members U Aung Lwin Oo and U Myint Oo, district and township-level officials, members of the sub-commissions, and local residents and trainees, totaling 263 people.

In his opening speech, the UEC Chairman stated that the election would begin on December 28, 2025. He highlighted three key differences from previous elections. First, the election will use a Mixed-Member Proportional (MMP) system, which combines the previous First-Past-the-Post (FPTP) system with a proportional representation (PR) system.

Second, the voting method will change. Except for advanced voting, people will vote by pressing a button on the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine (MEVM) at polling stations on Election Day. Third, the election will be held in separate phases.

The UEC Chairman expressed his full confidence that sub-commission members, respected community leaders, departmental staff, and election staff will be able to successfully hold the election. He stressed that they must all work together to ensure a successful outcome.

After that, the Secretary of the Kyaukme District Election Sub-Commission explained the purpose of the training. An official from the Mandalay Region Election Sub-Commission then explained the structure, usage, and voting process of the MEVM.

The attendees then participated in a practical demonstration using the machines. Finally, the UEC Chairman presented food to the security personnel on duty. He then inspected the Naungcho Township Election Sub-Commission office and provided necessary instructions.
