Due to the severe earthquake that occurred on March 28, some sections of the Thazi-Shwe Nyaung hill railway line suffered collapses and damage, leading to a temporary suspension of train services.

The earthquake primarily caused destruction in several areas, including between the Phaya-Ngar Suu Station and Yinmabin Station, between Lepyin Station and Lun-Htoe Station, and between Lun-Htoe Station and Khwayyoke  Station. Large boulders tumbled down from hillsides, landslides occurred, large trees fell, and rocks crashed onto the railway tracks, causing the rails to bend, break, and become obstructed.

Due to these railway damages, the Thazi-Shwe Nyaung-Taunggyi passenger train services were temporarily halted. Myanmar Railways officials inspected the damaged areas starting from March 29 and deployed a workforce of 100 workers along with three backhoes to clear the obstructing boulders and landslide debris. They also carried out immediate repairs, including replacing damaged and broken rails. Thanks to these efforts, the railway section was reopened by April 2, and the passenger train services resumed normal operations starting from April 4.

Similarly, the Ministry of Transport and Communications and Myanm Railways have been working to facilitate smooth travel for the public and faster transportation of goods by operating both passenger and freight trains. Train services are running normally not only on major routes such as Yangon-Mandalay, Yangon-Pyay, Yangon-Mawlamyine, Pathein-Kyangin, and the Yangon Circular Railway but also on other connecting lines linked to the Yangon-Mandalay main railway line.
