Excavations at the ancient city of Herakleia in the Muğla district of Milas have unearthed traces of animal species that have lived in the region for centuries.

Excavations in the ancient city have also uncovered important traces of the rich life in and around Lake Bafa.

Traces of domestic animals were found in the buildings where the excavations continued. These traces belong to various animals such as flamingos, dolphins, eels, domestic cats and dogs.

Some of them were painted on the mosaics, others left traces with their paws. The ancient city of Herakleia in the Milas district of Muğla is being opened to tourism after excavations and restorations.
