The sun shone through the clouds on the Halkidiki peninsula in Greece on Thursday. Tourists made their way back to the beach after a freak storm claimed lives and caused heavy damage. Tourists went back to sunbathing and swimming next to overturned lounge chairs, rain puddles, and other debris on the beach.
At least seven people, including six tourists from Romania, Czech Republic, and Russia, were killed and more than 100 others injured when a violent, short-lived storm lashed northern Greece overnight, overturning vehicles, uprooting trees that toppled cars, and causing rooftops to collapse. There were widespread power cuts. Winds of over 100 kph were reported on the peninsula, popular with tourists in the summer.
